Revolutionizing Pipeline Safety: LiveEO Transforms Monitoring for Middle Eastern Oil Giant

In a groundbreaking move, a leading oil and gas operator in the Middle East has teamed up with LiveEO to redefine their approach to monitoring and safeguarding their extensive pipeline network against third-party risks. This collaboration aims to address challenges such as the limited coverage of helicopter inspections, the inherent risks of human error in visual assessments, and a notable absence of digitalization in the company’s workflow. By overcoming these obstacles, the partnership is poised to enhance the overall safety and reliability of the pipeline network, marking a significant step forward in the company’s commitment to innovation and risk mitigation.

LiveEO’s Game-Changing Solution

Under a pilot project, LiveEO has introduced a state-of-the-art monitoring solution that comprehensively monitors new interferences within a +/-30 meter corridor along the company’s pipeline, ensuring a detailed and accurate assessment of the infrastructure. Updates are provided biweekly with a lead time of 48 hours from image acquisition completion to the delivery of reports accessible via an intuitive web application. In emergency situations, this delivery time can be further reduced to less than 24 hours.

LiveEO's solution has already demonstrated its effectiveness, with an average of 75 relevant changes detected per update per 100 kilometer of pipeline. These changes encompass a diverse range of third-party activities, including construction-related work, agricultural changes, demolitions, and more. LiveEO's end-to-end machine learning-based pipeline has proven to outperform other available alternatives, offering unparalleled accuracy and efficiency in pipeline monitoring. To demonstrate the quality of the analytics, LiveEO typically organizes field trips to validate the findings detected by satellites. In the following examples, we can observe the accuracy of the detections made using LiveEO's satellite-based analytics.

Why Pipeline Monitoring Matters

Monitoring pipelines is a mission-critical endeavor for oil and gas companies and its importance cannot be overstated. With pipelines often buried at depths of less than 1 meter, they are vulnerable to various surface-level risks such as ground movements due to farming and construction activities, as exemplified by incidents like a construction company in Seattle causing two major gas leaks in one week. Shell in Nigeria also reported that 90% of oil spills in 2017 were caused by third-party interference.

Traditional monitoring methods, relying on aircraft and helicopters, suffer from low scalability and poor analytics performance, limiting their ability to effectively mitigate these risks. In contrast, LiveEO's innovative solution sets a new standard for pipeline monitoring that is responsive to emerging challenges, delivering the following benefits:

  • Frequent monitoring. We have built a solid pipeline to deliver key insights to you every week.
  • Accurate risk assessment. Our technology is capable of detecting over 10 different types of activities with an impressive accuracy rate of 95%.
  • Seamless delivery. Insights are delivered via user-friendly web and mobile apps, enabling you to manage thousands of relevant tasks through a centralized system, which facilitates hassle-free progress tracking and instant updates.

In the ever-evolving landscape of the industry, LiveEO stands as a steadfast partner committed to future-proofing it against growing third-party threats. Its satellite-based solution plays a pivotal role in elevating the safety and reliability of critical infrastructure, paving the way for a more secure and resilient future.
