Following its recent announcement of €6.6 million in GRW funding for the Twinspector satellite constellation, LiveEO has reached another significant milestone in its deep tech roadmap. The company has been awarded a validation contract from SPRIND (Bundesagentur für Sprunginnovationen), Germany's Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation, for a breakthrough project that harnesses AI to fundamentally transform how Earth Observation (EO) data is processed and interpreted.
SPRIND is tasked by the German federal government with identifying and backing highly innovative, high-risk R&D projects with the potential to become "leap innovations", technologies that can disrupt existing markets and solve massive societal or technological challenges.
By securing this contract, LiveEO joins a select group of pioneers trusted to build the future of Germany and Europe’s deep tech infrastructure.
Validation of LiveEO’s Deep Tech Leadership
This latest backing from SPRIND acts as a powerful validation of LiveEO’s technical vision and machine learning expertise. While traditional public funding often targets incremental improvements to existing software, SPRIND specifically looks for radical technological leaps.
As part of a dedicated validation phase with SPRIND, LiveEO will push the boundaries of Earth Observation within its AI team over the next 6 months. By bridging the gap between cutting-edge AI research and practical, planetary-scale infrastructure monitoring, the project aims to solve core bottlenecks that currently limit the speed and scalability of geospatial data analysis.
"Securing backing from an agency like SPRIND is a tremendous honor and a strong nod to the caliber of our machine learning team," says Sven Przywarra, Co-Founder of LiveEO. "SPRIND doesn't fund standard product development; they invest in breakthroughs. This contract allows us to take big, ambitious swings at solving some of the most complex challenges in GeoAI, ensuring LiveEO remains at the absolute frontier of the industry."
Shifting the Paradigm in Geospatial Intelligence
As Europe faces mounting pressure from climate change, aging assets, and evolving security risks, the demand for fast, reliable, and automated geospatial intelligence has never been higher. LiveEO's upcoming work under the SPRIND contract will focus on the intersection of advanced AI reasoning and multi-sensor satellite data, specifically addressing the challenge of cross-modality analysis between optical and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery.
"What fascinates me most about recent AI developments is the reasoning and context understanding emerging in other domains. Analyzing satellite images for context understanding has always relied on the human eye, with AI only able to support change detection or object detection. Applying a reasoning layer on multi-temporal and multi-modal satellite data will enable completely new applications, and my impression is that we are only scratching the surface of what will be possible soon," says Co-Founder Daniel Seidel.
While optical satellites provide highly intuitive data, they are blind to the Earth's surface when blocked by clouds or darkness. SAR (radar) imagery solves this critical vulnerability, offering the ability to capture data day or night, rain or shine. However, SAR data is notoriously difficult for humans to interpret and typically requires highly specialized experts to decipher.
By utilizing agentic AI reasoning to bridge the gap between SAR, optical data, and natural language, LiveEO aims to make complex, all-weather Earth Observation insights accessible and actionable far beyond the traditional circle of EO specialists.

"We are moving into an era where AI doesn't just process pixels, but actually understands the underlying context of the changes happening on our planet," says Ferdinand Schenck, Staff ML Engineer on the AI Team at LiveEO. "The support from SPRIND gives us the resources and the creative freedom to pioneer new AI systems that blend multi-sensor data with advanced reasoning. It’s incredibly exciting to build tech that will fundamentally change how operational teams interact with and trust satellite insights."
This project, backed by SPRIND, directly builds upon and enriches LiveEO’s core technological foundation. Specifically, it acts as a major resiliency milestone for SurfaceScout, empowering the platform to operate across all weather conditions globally, reduce false positives, and deliver highly accurate risk assessments to critical infrastructure and security operators, regardless of cloud cover.
